Koombana Days

$39.99

By Annie Boyd

The elegant, ultra-modern S.S. Koombana arrived in Western Australia in March 1909. After only three years of Nor’-West service, the ship and her entire complement disappeared in a late-summer cyclone off the Pilbara coast. The vessel has never been found and the tragedy remains unexplained.

Koombana Days is the story of the ship and of the people in whose lives she figured so large.

About the author:

Annie Boyd spent her childhood in Perth and returned to Western Australia in her 30s where her interest in marine life turned to shipwrecks and maritime history. A chance mention of Koombana at a maritime archaeology meeting sparked her interest in this still-unsolved mystery. An experienced and adventurous diver, Annie has spent months camping along the Nor’-West coast, investigating wrecks, following the ocean and its leads. In the course of her research she met with many descendants seeking information about relatives lost in the tragedy.
