Stringybark Publishing

Stringybark Publishing

Stringybark Publishing is small bespoke publisher based in Springrange, New South Wales, a rural locality outside Canberra.

Created in 2010 by award-winning author and editor, David Vernon, it specialises in publishing short print run and niche publications that large companies consider to be non-commercial. Stringybark publishes family histories, poems, memoirs, local histories, novels, novellas, how-to-guides, travel tales and short story anthologies.

Since 2010 Stringybark Publishing has also sponsored the national Stringybark Stories short story awards. This sponsorship has led to many emerging authors getting a leg up into the cut-throat market for writing. Since its inception, Stringybark Stories has sponsored the publication of 41 uniquely Australian short story anthologies and given away over $33,000 in prize money.

A Good Yarn

David Vernon’s latest book, A Good Yarn, provides a fascinating insight into how popular myths are made and can wield influence not just at the time of their invention, but for years, even generations to come. A Good Yarn shines a spotlight onto seven historical events that have grown into Australian legends. Ten years and many hundreds of hours of painstaking research in the making, the book explores how facts became blended with fiction to entertain and captivate audiences, disguising the true story as they went.
